PhD/MSc In Microelectronic System Engineering

CEDEC has over the years built-up a strong capabilities and gained international reputation in the field of microelectronic engineering. As for today, CEDEC is the only center in Malaysia that provides EDA infrastructure for VLSI design and integrated fabrication facilities. Our strategy is to pursue excellence by conducting high-impact research, and producing future talents in meeting the demand by industries and research institutions. In fulfilling these objectives, CEDEC offers exciting opportunities for students to undertake high quality research, leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MSc) in Microelectronic System Engineering. This is expected to spearhead concerted effords towards creating more human resource focusing on microelectronic design and fulfill our goal as a centre of excellence which acts as an interface between the academic and industrial engineering world in the hope of enhancing teaching and collaborative research.

Program Book

Analog and Digital IC design
CMOS analog circuit design for low-power and high-precision applications including Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp), Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA), Bandgap Voltage References (BGR), Low Dropout Regulators (LDO), Current Mirrors, Voltages, Comparators, Phase-Locked bias circuits, Sensor Interfaces Circuits and Analog Front-End  building blocks

RFIC Design
Advanced radio-frequency integrated circuit design for wireless communication and energy autonomous systems including Power Amplifier (PA), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA), Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), RF Mixers, RF Switchers, Frequency Synthesizers, RF Energy Harvesting Circuits (RFEH), Matching Network, RF Transceivers and milimeter-wave front-end subsystems.

Mixed-Signal IC Design
Design of high-performance mixed-signal data conversion and interface circuits including Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC), Digital-to-Analog Converters (DAC), Delta-Sigma Modulator, Phase-Locked Loops (PLL), Clock and Data Recovery (CDR), Comparator Architectures, Signal Conditioning Circuits, and CMOS sensor read interfaces.

Digital IC Design and System-on-Chip (SoC)
Full-custom and semi-custom digital integrated circuit development including CMOS standard cells, Arithmetic Logic Units (ALU), Finite State Machines (FSM), Memory Architectures, FIR Filters, IIR Filters, DSP accelerator, RISC-V Processor Design, Hardware Description Language (Verilog/VHDL) implementation, ASIC synthesis, FPGA prototyping, embedded controllers, and System-on-Chip (SoC) integration.

Microelectronic System Design
Integrated electronic system development involving biomedical electronics, industrial automation, IoT sensing platforms, embedded monitoring systems, smart instrumentation, AI-edge hardware platforms, communication modules, transportation electronics, and secure semiconductor-enabled smart applications.

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and Advanced Devices
Design and development of MEMS sensors, microfabrication technologies, CMOS-MEMS integration, graphene and nanomaterial devices, microsensors, microactuators, energy harvesting devices, biomedical MEMS platforms, and advanced semiconductor device characterization.

Sensors and Intelligent Sensing Systems
Design and development of advanced sensing technologies and intelligent sensor interface systems for biomedical, industrial, environmental, and IoT applications including temperature sensors, pressure sensors, gas sensors, biosensors, humidity sensors, optical sensors, wearable sensing devices, wireless sensor nodes, low-power readout circuits, and AI-assisted smart sensing platforms.
